California's Expanded Learning Opportunity Programs (ELO-P) is an unprecedented opportunity to close the opportunity gap and to bring innovative, quality, and choice-driven learning to every student. By giving students and families choice regarding the programs they want to see after school and by not replicating what is learned in the school day, we are giving students the opportunity to drive their own learning and pursue their own passions. This way, each student, regardless of socioeconomic status, ethnicity, or gender will feel seen, heard, and supported. We will address how to implement student choice, measure results, and promote engagement.

Out-of-school time is half of K-12 education. While most districts offer extended-care programs, there's a glaring equity gap in choice-driven enrichment access. California's Expanded Learning Opportunity Programs (ELO-P) is an unprecedented opportunity to close this gap and to bring innovative, quality, and choice-driven learning to every student. Nevertheless, "building a school outside school" is a tremendous undertaking.

According to the language in ELO-P, programs should be:
complementing and not replicating the school day based on student choice results-driven, measurable, and improving continuously

By giving students and families choice regarding the programs they want to see implemented after school, and by not replicating what is learned in the school day, we are giving students the opportunity to drive their own learning and pursue their own passions. That way, each and everyone of our students, regardless of socioeconomic status, ethnicity, or gender, can feel seen, heard, and supported.

In this presentation we will address how to implement student choice, how to measure results and pivot, and how to promote engagement.
