Students are increasingly learning with high quality instructional materials founded on research-backed approaches like the concrete-to-pictorial-to-abstract approach that offer a roadmap to helping kids make sense of math and build lasting understanding. However, when misconceptions or unfinished learning arise, a traditional intervention approach takes students off course, focusing solely on abstract, remedial skill review that does not help students develop the balance of conceptual understanding and procedural fluency that will unlock current and future grade-level math problems. This session explores specific math examples to illuminate an approach to Tier 1 intervention that is founded on instructional coherence, leveraging high-quality instruction to help students catch up and move forward in math learning. Join us to explore how a coherent, just-in-time approach to intervention, grounded in visualization of math concepts, can help all students access grade-level learning.
