About me
Kris Munro is completing her eleventh year as Superintendent of Santa Cruz City Schools. With 33 years of experience in education, Kris began her career as a high school English and English Language Development teacher and has held a variety of leadership roles, including Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, Principal, and Assistant Principal.
A champion for equity and the success of each and every student, Kris is dedicated to ensuring that every student receives a world-class education. Under her leadership, Santa Cruz City Schools has made significant strides in preparing students for post-secondary opportunities, including increasing A-G completion rates across all student groups and signficantly expanding CTE pathway options. The district has also secured sustainable local funding by successfully passing four parcel taxes and four bond measures, providing critical resources for educational programs and infrastructure.
Currently, Santa Cruz City Schools is focused on addressing both academic and social-emotional needs of students while advancing innovative solutions, such as a workforce housing project set to break ground this spring. This initiative aims to attract and retain top-tier educators and staff to serve the Santa Cruz community.
